Full Description
Japanese Imperial Naval Officer's Kai-Gunto Katana. Pre-1943 that was forged and crafted in Kamakura, Japan. It has the naval stamp and the name of the maker/location on the tang. (Tenshozan Tanrenjo Saku), which translates to "Forged at Tenshozan, by the Tanrenjo forging workshop, crafted by Mr. Saku" The sword is created to be rust proof, since it was bound to be on a naval vessel.
Each piece of the guard and sleeves are also stamped and have matching numbers. Overall a very fair condition. The blade is amazing condition. No rust on any metal and the ray skin is still looking very good. Three small nicks on blade but should be able to work it out easily.
WARNING: There are a LOT of replica swords out there and they sell for around $800 or less. There are also con artists out there forging modern sword, stamping replica Japanese manufacturing markings, dipping the handles in vinegar to age them, adding antique accessories, and pawning them off as actual antique swords. You will find these for around $1,000. If you want to buy replicas and fakes because you just want a "display" for your house.. fine. THIS is not that. This is an authentic WWII Japanese Imperial Navy sword and is worth every penny.
No trades. I will entertain reasonable offers. Selling for a widow.
