A friend of the family from Iowa passed away from liver cancer and his partner passed several firearms to us.  Some we have kept and some I have already passed to others.  This is the last one we have, to sell.  He had told us he had acquired it years ago in Chicago.

This is a 1937 Colt Detective Special.  I am not an expert so I will make no claims about its condition, other than to let you know I had Mike at The Broken Gun do some work on it in case my wife wanted to carry/shoot it.  I believe it will make a great shooter or collector for the right person.  The Serial number is #453550 so you can go to the Colt web site to check it if you like.  I found the ‘T’ stamp indicating it has been stamped “targeted” by a Master Marksman and also the ‘U’ Inspectors stamp.

I have the original grips which will come with it . . . and also a pair of grips I had made for this little pistol.  You can see in the pictures.  I also have two holsters.  One is an AZULA pocket holster for those who want to conceal and carry, and I have the original Heiser this was carried in when it was still in the service of the Chicago Police Dept.  The original holster is much older so I do not keep the firearm in it even though it is in excellent condition.  You can see in the pictures.

When this gun was retired, it was given to the Chicago Police Post for disposal.  I do not have the paperwork for this process and did not do a thorough search for records.  With the proper documentation, I have been told this could easily go for much more.  However, my loss will be your gain.  It does show, however, all the typical wear and tear a duty firearm would from that era.  It really adds quite some character to the overall look and feel.
