This particular example bears a low 5-digit serial number 18XXX, "MATCHING NUMBERS" dating its manufacture to 1936 (pre-war production, confirmed via Winchester serialization records). Early pre-war Model 42s like this are increasingly scarce on the market, with total production of only about 160,000 units spanning 1933–1963.
